Thermo Fisher Scientific has created a research solution for mutation detection at a sensitivity level of 1% and below. This allows researchers to find and quantify mutations in heterogeneous tumor samples circulating free DNA (cfDNA), a less invasive approach than using tumor tissue or needle biopsies. This solution combines TaqMan® SNP Genotyping Assays with digital PCR. A set of assays was optimized for use in digital PCR with the QuantStudio® 3D Digital PCR System. Our initial set of 60 assays covers mutations commonly found in tumor tissues. This solution can be used for orthogonal validation of mutations found at low percentage by next generation sequencing and for monitoring levels of cancer driver mutations in cfDNA. The QuantStudio® 3D Digital PCR System is also ideal for the study of copy number variations in tumor samples such the HER-2 gene, critical for assessing breast cancer samples (For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures).
