With the help of a new building, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for Science, Research and Arts will support building a bridge to foster the research between Heidelberg University and the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research. The declaration of intent providing the funding by the state of Baden-Württemberg (25 Mio Euro) has been signed on Friday, 9 March 2018, by the Minister for Science, Research and Arts, Theresia Bauer, the President of the Max Planck Society, Prof. Dr. Martin Stratmann, and the President of Heidelberg University, Prof. Dr. Bernhard Eitel. The new building will be part of the Innovation Campus “Heidelberg 4 Life” in the life sciences and will be constructed in close proximity to the Max Planck Institute. It is connected with the planned research network “Biology on a Nanoscale” previously initiated by the Nobel Prize laureate Prof. Dr. Stefan Hell. With this, a second Innovation Campus besides the Cyber Valley (Tübingen) will promote the recruitment of high-potential young talents and boost a science-driven dynamic entrepreneurial spirit to push groundbreaking discoveries.
