Large Equipment Program
All members of the cluster may apply for funding of investment >40.000 € per individual piece of equipment. Deadline for applications (to the cluster management office) is June 19th, 2011. Major aim of the program for large equipment is to allow dynamic reaction to technical innovations or new requirements within the funding period of CellNetworks. Thus to all CellNetworks members should be given opportunity to apply for the funding of new or the development of available equipment.
Applications should not exceed two pages (Arial 12pt, single space) and should address the following criteria:
- What equipment is requested and why will this purchase expand the scientific capacity of the CellNetworks cluster? The call mainly aims at making new methods and technology available on campus.any groups (and/or research areas) of the Cluster will benefit from this new equipment and how will access to the equipment for a wide range of users be ensured?
- How many groups (and/or research areas) of the Cluster will benefit from this new equipment and how will access to the equipment for a wide range of users be ensured?
- Is this or similar equipment already available on campus? If so, where and why is the requested equipment still of major general importance for the cluster?
- Where will the equipment be located and who will be responsible for maintenance and user training?
- Will the new equipment be associated with or part of a core facility on campus?
- Specification of product details and cost (preliminary quotation recommended).
Funding is exclusively for equipment purchase and no funds are available for operator or maintenance cost within this program. All applications will be reviewed and ranked by the CellNetworks Steering Committee. Please note that this year the DFG budget year will end as soon as 31 October 2011. Therefore we aim at completing the equipment program including the whole purchase procedure by end of July.
Young Parents Program
A special support program has been set up to help female and male cluster members who have children to combine their educational and parental responsibilities with their professional duties. Support includes the funding of childcare costs and financial support for professional babysitting during evening meetings. In close collaboration with the university, we support extra service in the kids' club and help parents find the right time slot for their child in the crèche . For more information contact cellnetworks [ aT ] bioquant.uni-heidelberg.de.
PhD-Program/Postdoc-Program
CellNetworks can provide support through a PhD and postdoc pool to fund additional research projects. These projects should be located between research areas to establish cross fertilization between the disciplines. Calls for application in postdoc or PhD programs are carried out regularly and announced internationally. The next application call in the postdoc program will be started in autumn 2011.
Symposia and Lectures
Every CellNetworks member can suggest focused symposia, invite guest professors or organize a high profile lecture in his research area. We will support such activities with extra funds. Please contact the Steering committee first by mail to cellnetworks [ aT ] bioquant.uni-heidelberg.de.
Albrecht-Kossel guest professor award
This activity serves to invite distinguished scientists for short term professorship at the CellNteworks cluster. It is named after the Heidelberg Nobel laureate Albrecht Kossel, a pioneer in nucleic acid and protein biochemistry. Suggestions for this award can be made by any CellNetworks member and the decision is made on an annual base by the General Assembly. Awardees will be invited to Heidelberg for up to four months and will receive a given remuneration. Albrecht Kossel awardees will be asked to give a distinguished lecture in the CellNetworks lecture series.
Short term lab visit
All members can apply at any time for support to cover travel and subsistence for foreign visitors for laboratory visits of up to two weeks. Applications need to provide a rationale for the planned visit as well as a short experimental plan and will be decided by the Steering Committee. Preference will be given to interdisciplinary collaborations and to new initiatives.
Sabbatical visitor program
Foreign visitors planning a sabbatical in one of the CellNetworks groups can apply for support to cover the increased cost of their visit. This does not include the basic salary (which is paid by the home institution during the sabbatical), but should partially defray the increased cost of living and travel. Grants within this activity are up to 1.000 € per month for a period of up to 6 months and are decided by the Steering Committee and based on an informal application specifying the research program and a statement by the host investigator.
